Hooray, Ertha Beta v0.5 goes live today! Read on to see the full list of changes and what we expect going forward.

Ertha Beta v0.5 introduces a demo mode of terraforming and building on land HEXs, along with a massive list of bug fixes and improvements to already existing features.

This demo of terraforming is very important for two things: firstly, for landowners to familiarize themselves with the mechanics, before starting to make changes editing their own HEXs. Secondly, for us to get vital feedback from players about what you like, what you don’t like and what can be improved.

First of all, let’s talk about big improvements that are already planned:

  • Currently, the demo city itself and the new terraforming environment are relatively small. Actual HEXs will be bigger and the demo city will expand over time;
  • Only a few building options have been added in the building demo. We are actively creating building assets for the game and more options will be added soon. Stay tuned to our socials where we’ll showcase them one by one!;
  • The current building grid/environment is 2D, while terrain and nature is 3D. We are actively developing a solution that will make the building environment 3D, allowing players to build properties on mountains or higher ground, build incline roads and so on;
  • More customization options. Ideally, we want each HEX to be as unique as possible. We’ll be adding many types of decorations, props, assets, texture and foliage options that will be used to make the city feel much more alive;

FEATURES

  • Added a demo terrain environment to test terraforming in the Demo City HEX. Can edit terrain, modify height map, and brush trees
  • Added demo city builder environment to Demo City HEX. Players can now zone areas (Residential, Commercial, Industrial), place roads, place buildings
  • Added default local save for the editable terrain and grid
  • Added WASD/Arrows for all top down cameras
  • Introduced the News Panel — you can now look at our patch notes and Ertha news in the game
  • Added nudge indicator when there are unread news, and added a close button
  • Added key binding legend in the escape menu so people know the controls
  • Added more data to logging system to get us more info from player logs when given
  • Added the new Bybit Skyscraper
  • Added the Avocado DAO Skyscraper
  • Added functionality to select your avatar in the character creator and in the character info panel (open your stats and click on your character’s avatar)
  • Added character model into the inventory view
  • Added mouse look sensitivity slider to settings
  • Added anew music track (more to come soon!)
  • Added new mouse cursor art
  • Improved player collider to match the player model better. Camera will now more accurately represent where the player’s eyes are
  • Enhanced our third person camera to allow characters to rotate smoothly. This also addressed an issue where camera transitions stopped the character’s motion
  • Added in-game bug reports and an indication that a bug report has been successfully sent

BUG FIXES

  • Fixed a bug where stats tooltips and information about skills were not displaying in character creator
  • Fix for character following out of inventory view
  • Fixed borders being a little too aggressive
  • Fixed far clipping causing “pop in” when in first and third person
  • Fixed being able to break gamestate flow from inventory
  • Fixed foliage in odd places
  • Fixed tree LOD placement making trees appear to dance
  • Fixed aggressive camera blurring when near border wall
  • Fixed lighting being too dark at any time of day
  • Fixed issues with transitioning out of interior directly into top down
  • Fixed camera rotation bugs
  • Fixed extreme lag when previewing many buildings
  • Fixed error with trying to enter non interior buildings
  • Fix for terrain getting flattened by loading zone info in grid
  • Fixed incorrect textures on some assets in grid mode
  • Fixed a bug where many key presses during loading can cause a crash
  • Minor fixes for the building highlighting
  • Fix window illumination bug were some building did not illuminate at night and others barely lit up
  • Fix for missing cursor on escape menu
  • Fixed missing collision on some props like traffic signs and lamps
  • Fix traffic AI to prevent many car collisions
  • Fixed issue where multiple interiors could be active at once
  • Fix for news feed flashing hyperlinks when scrolling
  • Fixed missing tooltips in character creator scene for skills, strengths and weaknesses
  • Fixed double jumping floating character bug when scrolling in and out of third and first person views
  • Fixed bridge between terrain colliders were missing
  • Fix for spawning in and out of building facing wrong way
  • Fix for aggressive camera rotation when transitioning between views
  • Fixed multiple bugs with cursor like not being able to click ui in some states
  • Fix for globe north and south pole having a hole in globe
  • Removed foliage in odd places and added some in empty spaces
  • Fix for windows not turning on and off with time of day
  • Fixed first person camera being offset
  • Fixed terrain skirt not updating with generation
  • Fixed car first person view being offset to left
  • Fixed quiz panel not hiding
  • Fixed missing cursor in quiz in some situations
  • Fixed possible crash when generating terrain
  • Fixed slowdown on painting trees

KNOWN ISSUES

  • Ground textures sometimes clip through roads (lower the terrain beneath the road a little bit to fix this)
  • On some machines, selecting or switching a building selection causes a lag spike
  • The “contour preview” of a building or road sometimes disappears, pressing O will fix this
  • Deleting a building sometimes leaves behind a red visual glitch on the grid tile, clicking on the grid tile with the delete tool will fix this
  • Roads sometimes float a little bit above the surface of the ground
  • Some road types don’t properly connect with others or become different in turns (we recommend only using the basic road tile at the moment for the best results)
  • In the building mode UI, building icons are square, but are trying to fit in to hexagon-form buttons
