When you first come in Ertha, you will find a globe-spanning, feature-rich map, full possibilities. It might seem a little intimidating at first!
It’s been a while since we spoke about Ertha’s map. A common question we receive is ‘What’s the difference between regions?’
So let’s refresh our memories and look at how the resources you find on your HEX will shape your gameplay.
The map is divided into hexagons, each representing a location based on the real-world. You might be one of the first lucky settlers, or you might be joining an already established community.
What do we already know about Ertha’s HEXs?
- There are 350,000 of them, each purchasable as an NFT.
- HEX owners form communities and earn revenue on transactions that take place on their land.
- Each HEX is unique, with detailed points of interest that can be found and explored. Buildings can be built, discovered, and put to use.
- Materials are placed on each HEX randomly, according to each region’s natural resource.
Currently, when buying land in Ertha, keep in mind that once you have selected a country to buy land in, you are allocated HEX’s at random. Use your real-world knowledge to decide where the most advantageous regions to start your journey might be.
The list of available resources is long, but you will find oil, coal, and natural gas, along with metals and stone. Of course, it’s unlikely that you will land on a HEX with all of these, so consider your playstyle and long-term goals. This is where your ability to work with what you are given comes into its own.
For example, we know that around 100 countries produce oil, however, just five of these account for 50% of the world’s production. Each location will have its advantages and disadvantages; just because someone has been fortunate enough to land on a HEX with oil ready to be mined, it doesn’t mean they will enjoy more long-term success than someone who lands on a HEX with seemingly less valuable fruit. Your success depends on how you put your resources to work!
